Coffee Talks 2016-2017

February 3rd – The February Coffee Talk was primarily about scholarship and financial aid information, information about the IB exams this May and an update on the course registration process for the 2017-2018 school year.

  • KnowHow2GO HandbookCollege and Career Planning for 8th, 9th and 10th Grade Students – This 28-page handbook will guide students through four steps that will help them KnowHow2GO to college.

  • College Prep Handbook – for Juniors and Seniors – This handbook walks high school juniors and seniors through steps they should follow to select a college and pay for college. It includes a list of all colleges in Nebraska along with cost, enrollment and contact information.
  • Finals Will Make You Stronger and Helping your Children Through Exams – Two IBO produced blogs related to helping parents help their students during the exam process.

January 6th – Our January Coffee Talk was held on Friday, January 6th from 8:00-8:45 AM AND 3:15-4:00. Both discussions related to understanding the course registration process for the 2017-2018 school year will begin later this month.  As is customary we concluded a question-and-answer period to close the session.

December  2nd – Our December Coffee Talk was held on Friday, December 2nd from 8:00-8:45 AM in Room 300. The subject for this Coffee Talk was about HL (Higher Level) and SL (Standard Level) IB classes and in particular how one decides which to take. Marissa Wanamaker, our Modern Languages Dept Chair and German HL/SL teacher and Catherine Garcia IB Spanish spoke about the differences between the two in the area of modern languages and Jodie and myself covered the other areas.

November 4th – This session featured a panel discussion of Senior IB students talking about their thoughts about the program, how they have achieved success and balance, and their suggestions to current 9th and 10th grade honores students.

October 7th – This session focused on two elements of the Diploma Program Core.

September 2nd – Intro Coffee Talk – Overview, role of the IB mission statement and Learner Profile, tips for success, questions and answers.
