The PSAT/NMSQT is Coming!

IF YOU ARE A JUNIOR, PLANNING TO ATTEND A 4-YEAR COLLEGE AFTER GRADUATION, THIS IS FOR YOU!

The PSAT will be administered on Saturday, October 13, 2018. This only happens once a year. This test is designed specifically for juniors planning to attend a 4-year college. Reasons you might want to take the PSAT:

  • to practice for the “real” admissions tests (SAT and ACT) which you will take in the spring of this year and the fall of your senior year
  • to have college information sent to you “automatically”
  • to get information about how your skills in critical reading, math reasoning, and writing compare to other students who plan to go to a 4-year college
  • to plan courses to take before you graduate from LHS;
  • to enter the National Merit Scholarship Competition.

It is also beneficial to take the test to get a head start on improving academic skills needed for success in college and beyond. Classroom learning is the basis for test questions, so the best way you can prepare is to involve yourself in rigorous courses and become familiar with the test and its format. You should review the PSAT/NMSQT Official Student Guide, which is full of useful information, including a full-length Practice Test. The Guide and the Practice Test will help you understand all the directions and be familiar with the types of questions that will be asked. (You will receive this upon registration.)

If you don’t do well on this test, it will NOT hurt your chance of getting into college—PSAT scores are not sent to colleges. However, your Score Report will provide personalized information on the types of skills that you need to improve to prepare for college.

The PSAT is given at LHS in the South Building starting at 7:45 AM on Saturday, October 13. You will be finished with the test before 11:30 AM. If you plan to take the test, you need to register for it by:

  1. Filling out the Google Form (https://goo.gl/forms/jYIeKVClovtnFpYJ2)
  2. Paying $25 via Synergy or directly to Kim Loth in 200R (the bookkeeper’s office)
  3. Going to the Counseling Center to receive your ticket for admission and the PSAT Student Guide and Practice Test

IMPORTANT: We can no longer process credit card payments over the phone. You must have your registration complete by Friday, October 12th to be able to test. Priority registration is given to 11th graders. Tenth and 9th graders may sign up during the week of October 1st.
