Lincoln High has received 12 awards for the 2015 Nebraska State Scholastic Competition. The following artists received awards:

Gold Key Award:

Art Appreciation of Mr. Heineman

IMG_0126 IB Visual Art and AP Studio Drawing worked on collaborative drawings of their favorite administrator, John Heineman. To show how much they appreciate him being around, they “installed” the images of him in a gallery at his desk.

National Gold Medal Received by a Link

The Art Department is pleased to announce that Anika Zempleni earned national recognition in the 2014 Scholastic Art Awards. Anika received a Gold Medal for her mixed media piece “This is not who I am.” (see below) A panel of creative professionals identified her as one of the most talented young artists in the nation. This year almost 255,00 works of art were submitted. Only the top 1% were recognized at the national level.  We are so proud of Anika and her accomplishment.

Ten State Art Awards!

Eight Links are celebrating a win in the Nebraska Scholastic Competition.  Gold Key winners include Isabella Catalano and Anika Zempleni. Silver Key winners are Violet Wieser, Kyly Baxter,  and Isabella Catalano. Di Chit, Leah Kash-Brown, Jamie Reigert, Violet Wieser, Celia Rodriguez received Honorable Mentions. Links Celebrate Youth Art Month

Families and friends are viewing the work of Lincoln High Artists.

Families and friends are viewing the work of Lincoln High Artists.

The whole month of March, Lincoln High art students have their work on display at Bennett Martin Library. Work includes photography, drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking and digital pieces. The library have been great hosts to help LHS celebrate Youth Art month. The natural public audience they have brings many new eyes to view the students’ pieces.

Links Artist – Another Creative Job Well Done

Lincoln High received 4 awards at this year’s Nebraska Scholastic Art competition in Omaha.

  • Isabella Catalano received 2 Silver Key awards—one in Drawing for her “Red Border” ink piece and one in Comic Art for a 5-panel digital piece titled “All in a Day’s Work”.
  • Camille Harrah received 1 Silver Key in Printmaking for her “Something like Shadows” piece.
  • David Placzek received 1 Silver Key in Painting for his “Corn Hangers” acrylic painting (see below).

All work will be on display at the Omaha Public Schools TAC building until the end of March. The award ceremony will be held on February 23rd.

Explorations in Visual Expression – IB Academy Day

Eyedropper Drawings

Students drew from a selected photo using an eyedropper filled with ink.

 

Almost 200 students attended the International Baccaleureate Academy Day at Lincoln High School on Nov. 10th. In the Visual Art breakout sessions, participants learned about the IB Visual Art program with its full portfolio of personal work and its sketchbook requirements.

Participants also were able to explore the expressive quality of their mark-making. Using an eyedropper to deliver ink onto watercolor paper, students created drawings that had distinct personality. Colored pencils was also used to add emotive quality to the portrait.

Senior Honor Art Awards

 

 

Senior Art students were honored on Monday’s Senior Honors Convocation. The following students were acknowledged for their excellence in specific art media:

  • Dalton Blaser for Ceramics
  • Salu Guiza Garcia for Painting

Spring Arts Festival

Lincoln High celebrated its first Arts Festival on Thursday, April 26th. The Spring Play, The Story of Birdwoman, opened that night in the Ted Sorenson Theatre. The spring Art Show opened in the media center and cafeteria. During intermission, Amy Cariotto and her dance students helped teached some dance steps to those in attendance.

The Art Show continues through May 10th.

LHS Artists take State Awards

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lincoln High received 5 awards at this year’s Nebraska Scholastic Art competition in Omaha. A “Gold Key” was awarded to Marina Blum in mixed media. And, her work will go on to be judged at the National competition. “Silver Keys” went to Lillian Bornstein, Sierra Scott, and Jati Zunaibi. An “Honorable Mention” went to Carissa Wei. All work will be on display at the Omaha Public Schools TAC building until March 14th. The award ceremony will be held on February 25th.
