Nation Wide News

There are over 220,000 members of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) across the country. Did you know there is a chapter right here in our town? You might remember the name Future Homemakers of America? That’s us! We changed our name on July 7,1999 to Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Inc., (FCCLA) to better represent what FCCLA members accomplish.

The local, state, and national FCCLA organization helps young people examine many of the issues and challenges facing youth today and work toward gaining the “life skills” they need to meet those challenges. A number of relevant youth issues – future careers, youth violence prevention, family relations, traffic safety, community service, and the changing roles of men and women in the home and workplace are explored through in-class curriculum, hands on activities, group activities, and travel to meetings.

Throughout the year, FCCLA members tackle issues such as career exploration, stress management, traffic safety, youth violence prevention, family relationships, and much more. FCCLA programs enrich student learning, improve self-esteem, and serve students with a range of ability levels, economic situations, and cultural influences.

FCCLA: The Ultimate Leadership Experience is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences Education. FCCLA has over 220,000 members and nearly 7,000 chapters from 50 state associations and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The organization has involved more than ten million youth since its founding in 1945.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is unique among youth organizations because its programs are planned and run by members. It is the only career and technical in-school student organization with the family as its central focus. Participation in national programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers, and communities.
