Dear Kloefkorn Families,
Parent/teacher conferences will be held next week! We look forward to sharing information with you regarding your child’s academic and social/behavioral progress on Monday, October 9 and Thursday, October 12.  If you have not scheduled  a time, please contact  your  child’s teacher.

Suggest activities for you to do at home with your child to reinforce learning skills

The resource teachers, speech language pathologist and reading recovery teacher will be participating in as many conferences as possible.  Also, you are able to schedule conferences with our specialists.  I hope you will be able to visit them to find out about  the exciting learning that takes place in these classes every day.

Pumpkin Run

Nebraska Sports Council is hosting its 15th Annual Kids 1-mile Cross Country Fun Run at Pioneers Park tomorrow, October 7th. For those that signed up, shirts and packets were passed out today. Additional information about this race (cost, times, course, parking, weather, etc.) can be found on the Nebraska Sports Council Website.

MAP Testing 3rd & 5th Grade
We will administer the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test to grades 3 & 5 during the weeks of October 23rd and November 6th. During these testing periods, we encourage you to make sure your children are in school unless they are ill. To learn more about MAP including the test dates, click here.

Fun Knight is the theme!  Come join us for our annual Fun Night with Dragons, Knights, Princesses and more. All Kloefkorn Cubs, Parents and younger siblings are invited to participate. From the Principal’s Desk

Kloefkorn Families,

As we complete our 6th week I’d like to take this opportunity to reflect on all of the
amazing things happening at Kloefkorn.


I’d first like to thank the entire Kloefkorn community for warmly welcoming me as
the new principal of this beautiful school. One of my very favorite parts of the day is
greeting our students outside each morning. I get to welcome happy children with
big smiles on their faces and ready to learn every day. I also love visiting classrooms
where I observe highly engaged and motivated students who are showing their best
effort.


Kloefkorn teachers enter our building each morning well organized and prepared
to give 100% effort all day long. Parents can be assured that our teachers are highly
skilled and follow all LPS curriculum guidelines. I’m amazed as I watch our
dedicated support staff (office staff, para educators, health office staff,  cafeteria staff and custodial crew) go above and beyond at all times, which is just business as usual in this building.


We have an orderly and safe school. I’ve heard from many parents that drop off and pick up in the front loop at arrival and dismissal is going very smoothly this year. Our loop is cleared by 3:00 every day! Thank you to everyone who follows the north to south traffic flow when entering the loop from Glass Ridge Drive. We’ve opened up the Attica Room this year to add more space for our students to eat lunch in the cafeteria, having the extra space also helps with the noise level at lunchtime. The strong student behavioral expectations that were set the first year Kloefkorn opened continue on, such as students walking with voices off and with purpose throughout our hallways. We have a large and beautiful playground. As students play safely on our playground equipment we continue to also have the same playground rules as in the past. As an example, we do not allow students to play tag under the green playground equipment. When 50+ children are playing on this equipment it is not safe for students to be playing tag/running games in this same space. Our very large grass area has plenty of room for running and playing games.


I invite you to come and visit school at any time to see our students and staff in action. I’m always happy to answer questions, listen to comments/concerns or just chat. Please stop by the office, call or email me anytime! This is truly an inspiring community to be part of and I look forward to an incredible school year.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences are going to be held Monday, October 9th and Thursday October 12th from 3:30-7:00 PM. Each conference will be 15 minutes long for classroom and resource teachers and 10 minutes long for specialist. Parents are asked to sign up online using the link below. Sign up is now live and will remain open until Tuesday, October 3rd at midnight. We ask that you do not sign up with back-to-back appointments to allow travel time from one conference to the next. Principal’s News

Dear Kloefkorn Families,

It is hard to believe we have completed our 4th week of school already!  I hope your child is enjoying getting reacquainted with classmates, making new friends and building relationships with our highly skilled teachers.  We look forward to this year ahead and thank you in advance for your support.

I’d like to take this opportunity to remind all of you about the importance following our arrival and dismissal procedures to insure the safety of our students and to provide a smooth transition at a very busy time of day at Kloefkorn.  Please remember:

  • When dropping of your children in the morning in front/back loop, please have them ready to go (backpacks on, coats on….) so they can quickly exit your vehicle. This will allow for more families to use the front/back loop.
  • When in the front/back loop please do not get out of your vehicle when you are dropping off students in the morning or picking them up after school.
  • Please have your students exit your vehicle on the curb side.
  • You may not park and get out of your vehicle in the Kloefkorn front/back loop during arrival or dismissal. If you’d like to park and get out of your vehicle during this time please park on the street.
  • At dismissal, when driving through the front loop, please pull to the curb at the first open place to park (which may be up the driveway).  Our goal is to keep all vehicles moving to allow for as many of you as possible to pull into the loop.
  • Thank you so much for your cooperation!

At Kloefkorn we want all students to be successful. In order to ensure that students find success, Lincoln Public Schools has developed a framework of best practices for supporting student behavior throughout the school day. This framework includes evidence-based practices that we know lead to more positive outcomes for students. Some of the most powerful practices faculty and staff use include:

  • Developing and teaching all students our school and classroom expectations
  • Acknowledging positive behavior when we see it
  • Consistently practicing strategies that prevent problem behavior before it happens
  • Establishing consistent consequences
  • Using data to make decisions

All staff at Kloefkorn are working especially hard during these first weeks of school to teach our expectations and acknowledge positive behavior when we see it. In this way, we know we are laying the foundation for a productive and positive school year.

Kloefkorn Team Web Pages

All of our grade level team websites are currently “under construction”.  The district has asked  that all LPS teachers move to  individual LMS pages, which can be accessed on ParentVue. Our Kloefkorn teacher training for the new LMS websites will be in early October.  We will let you know as soon as our new LMS teacher websites are ready to go.

 

Picture Day

Be sure to mark your calendar for September 20th. If for some reason your child(ren) are not in attendance that day or you are not satisfied with the photo, retakes will be on October 25th in the morning.  Click here for 5 useful tips to help your child get ready for a great picture day! A Note from the Health Office

Every year in the fall a dentist comes to Kloefkorn to see all students who have not been seen by a dentist within the last year. If your student has seen a dentist in the last year please send me an email (rhadley@lps.org) or a quick phone call (402-436-1148 ext 2), with the date of the exam, and I will update our records for your student. By doing this it will eliminate the need for the student to be pulled out of class and be seen by the dentist. Thank you so much for your help in making this a successful year.

 

Birthdays and Celebrations/Lincoln Public Schools Guidelines
Birthdays are a special day in a child’s life. We will recognize birthdays. Please DO NOT send birthday invitations, treats, balloon bouquets, flowers, etc., to the school. These items will not be delivered to classrooms.

We are not able to share student names, addresses, and phone numbers. It is district policy and can be found the K-5 Common Practices online book and/or http://home.lps.org/threat/.

The Kloefkorn PTO annually publishes a Student Directory that can be used for this purpose.  The PTO’s annual membership fee includes one copy of the directory per family, and is currently in the process of publication – watch for it soon!

 

5th Grade says THANKS PTO!

The 5th grade had so much fun at the Saltdogs game last week and looked awesome in their matching shirts. A big thank you to the PTO for providing the team shirts!

 

 

Pumpkin Run

Destination Imagination Information Night!

Join us for our DI Open House TONIGHT, Friday, September 8th from 6:30-8:00pm in the Kloefkorn cafeteria. DI is an after school program that promotes teamwork, builds problem solving skills and encourages creativity! This year we are excited to offer three different levels of DI programming to students. After School Programs

It’s a new school year, and we have a new set of after school classes!  Classes are open to all Kloefkorn students who wish to participate. This Fall we are offering a wide selection of classes, including Chess, Lego, P.E., Art, Destination Imagination, Theater, and a new STEAM class.  A reminder to sign up will come home in Friday Folders on September 8. Arrival Procedures for 2017-2018 School Year

Please note that our student arrival plan this year will be changing slightly.

  • Students participating in the Kloefkorn breakfast program will notice no changes. Students may enter the building through the front door (door 1) between 7:45 a.m. and 8:05 a.m. to eat breakfast.
  • There will be no changes for students participating in our Family Service Before School Program.

Changes this year:

  • Students not eating breakfast or participating in the Family Service Before School Program may not enter our school grounds until 8:00 am. Supervision is not provided prior to 8:00 am. Safety is our number one priority and students must not be on school grounds unless they are supervised.
  • All kindergarten students will enter the building through the front door (door 1) and walk directly to the kindergarten hallway. Students will be supervised until school starts.
  • All 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students may enter the building through the front door (door 1) or the south side of the building (door 5). Students will walk directly to the gym and sit down in grade level lines until school start.

If for some reason you did not receive the email, the class lists will also be posted at Open House on Thursday, August 10th. School Supplies
Lincoln Public Schools provides all essential supplies needed by students for the school year. A backpack large enough to fit a large Tyvek/mailer Friday Folder – and possibly a lunch box – is all that families are asked to provide.
If you are interested in donating supplies, classroom teachers and specialists may share items that they would graciously welcome. Items may be dropped off at our Open House or dropped off at the office at any time. Click here to view wish lists

Solar Eclipse Day

Lincoln Public Schools will be celebrating the total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21, 2017. This event is unique, only occurring once every 500 years in the Midwest, and we want to help make this something your student will remember forever. To help you understand this event, here are some basic Q&As and information.

Chorus for 4th & 5th Grade Students

Chorus rehearsals will be held on Monday mornings from 7:20 – 8:10 a.m. when school is in session. This year we will have a combined 4th/5th chorus rehearsal in the music room (144).
Students will enter through the office doors (door 1)  no earlier than 7:10 am.  Attendance will be sent to the office at approximately 7:30 a.m.

Destination Imagination Information Night!

Join us for our DI Open House on Friday, September 8th from 6:30-8:00pm in the Kloefkorn cafeteria. DI is an after school program that promotes teamwork, builds problem solving skills and encourages creativity! This year we are excited to offer three different levels of DI programming to students. This program is for grades K-5!

Fun Night October 6th!

We are excited to be offering Spanish Immersion Classes with The Language Project (TLP) this fall. The Language Project´s hands-on, interactive, and high-energy approach ensures students are motivated and engaged while learning a new language at the same time. This fully immersive, independent, learning program is helping thousands of students worldwide unlock the benefits of bilingualism.

Classroom Assignments

Parent/Guardian’s will receive an email letting them know who their child’s/children’s teacher will be for the 2017-18 school year within the first two weeks of August. If for some reason you do not receive the email, the class lists will also be posted at Open House on August 10th.

School Supplies
Lincoln Public Schools provides all essential supplies needed by students for the school year. A backpack large enough to fit a large Tyvek/mailer Friday Folder – and possibly a lunch box – is all that families are asked to provide.
If you are interested in donating supplies, classroom teachers and specialist may share items that they would graciously welcome. Items may be dropped off at the Open House or dropped off at the office at any time. Click here to view wish lists

Family Swim Night

Join us for Family Swim night at Star City Shores on July 21st from 8:30PM-10:00PM to celebrate the end of summer! Incoming Cub families and graduating 5th grade families are welcome.  Admission to the pool is covered by Kloefkorn PTO. Concession stand will be open! We hope to see you there!

Summer Media & Bookmobile

Our summer media dates have come to an end. We hope everyone enjoyed getting time at the school this summer to do some fun activities and check out books! Don’t forget, you still have the opportunity to check out books through our Bookmobile that is at the school every other Wednesday from 6:00-7:00PM.

The Lied Bookmobile carries adult and juvenile fiction and nonfiction, magazines, DVDs and videos, audiobooks on tape and CD, computer games, and large print titles. Requests for items not currently on the Lied Bookmobile can be made by placing holds through the library’s online catalog, by calling any library location, or by submitting titles to Lied Bookmobile staff. Please allow several days before your stop for items to reach the Lied Bookmobile when placing holds.

Dear Kloefkorn Families,

It seems impossible that the 2016-2017 school year is coming to a rapid close. In keeping with our focus on excellence in teaching and learning— right up to the final bell! – your help in assuring that the last week of school is safe and educational is appreciated.  Our goal for the last week of school is a business-as-usual climate.  We will continue to expect students to conduct themselves as they have all year – in a safe, respectful, responsible manner.  Please do not allow your child(ren) to bring potential nuisance items to school (i.e. shaving cream, silly string, etc.) that may disrupt the learning environment.

Summer doesn’t have to mean a vacation from learning. Keep school skills sharp by including daily time to read and write in your child’s busy summer schedule AND… find plenty of time to rest, relax and have fun together.

Kloefkornucopia Day

Tuesday, May 23rd

Grand Parade- 1:45pm (weather permitting) 

Join us in celebrating our namesake Bill Kloefkorn, and the close of another successful school year!  Students in grades K-5 will walk in this special parade along with honorary guests including Mrs. Kloefkorn as Grand Marshal!  Each grade’s theme will reflect something about Mr. Kloefkorn’s life.

Please join us along the parade route, which includes our “big” block of land including the roads of Glass Ridge, Meursault, Oakville.  Streets around our school will be barricaded beginning at 1:30 (neighbors may notice a police presence), and the parade will begin shortly thereafter.  Thank you for respecting our neighbors’ sidewalks.

Bring a lawn chair, wear your plaid, invite your favorite friends, grandparents, siblings, neighbors, and warm up your cheering voice as we celebrate the life – and honor the memory of – our beloved namesake Bill Kloefkorn.

Lost and Found

We have quite the coat collection in our Lost and Found right now along with other items. Feel free to stop in and take a look to see if anything belongs to your family. Anything left behind at the end of the school year will be donated to charity.

LPS Solar Eclipse Celebration

We are excited to announce that all Lincoln Public School students and staff will be invited to participate in a special LPS Solar Eclipse Celebration early in the 2017-18 school year!

On Monday, August 21, students and staff will take part in a solar eclipse experience for this once-in-a-lifetime event: a full solar eclipse visible in the Lincoln and southeast Nebraska area.  Guided by specialists in all curriculum areas, this eclipse day of celebration will be preceded by a full week of rich, hands-on learning opportunities leading up to the grand finale.

Special safety glasses will be provided for all students and staff at Lincoln Public Schools – glasses that have been approved by the LPS Medical Advisory Committee. We will also be training staff and students the entire week leading up to the eclipse on safe viewing procedures.  Alternative activities will be provided for students who choose to stay inside.

A committee of safety and science experts have been working for months to make sure this is a wonderful learning experience – and a safe activity.  You will receive more detailed information about our celebration at the beginning of next school year. LPS Social Workers

LPS social workers offer many resources for parents including valuable new trauma information.

Lincoln Public Schools social workers offer families help and support in the issues they face day to day in helping raise healthy, happy children.

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month in May, social workers call your attention to their newest resource: Trauma Informed Parenting.

This publication recognizes that trauma affects at least one in four of LPS students, and that LPS has made a commitment for every school to be “trauma-informed” by educating staff, students and parents. The resource offers signs and symptoms, additional resources and other valuable advice and information.

LPS social workers also offer a wide variety of resources for parents – such as guidance in dealing with depression in children and adolescents, the importance of bedtime, school attendance issues, and many more. You can find parent resources from our social workers on the Parent Center webpage on the LPS website (lps.org) – or at this link.

Negative meal balances need to be paid in full before June 2, 2017

The parent/guardian is responsible to pay for all school meal purchases made by their student(s). Negative balances can be paid in the school office until Wednesday, May 24, 2017. Online payments can be made through May 24. After this date, payments will need to be made at or sent to:

Cafeteria account balances will automatically carry over from this year to next, even for students changing schools within Lincoln Public Schools.

Students leaving the district can obtain a refund for any amount. Lincoln Public Schools will only refund balances for returning students that exceed $20.00. Students must request their refund to the cafeteria manager at our school (Carol Irons) by May 24th, 2017 or from the District Office Accounting Department starting June 1st, 2017. Refunds over $45.00 will be mailed to the parents.

Students who have left LPS in one school year and return in another school year will not have their former cafeteria balances reinstated unless it is a negative balance.

REMINDER: ALL NEGATIVE LUNCH BALANCES WILL BE REFERRED TO A COLLECTION AGENCY IF THEY ARE NOT PAID.

Attention 4th Grade Parents!

We need your help!  Kloefkorn’s PTO is looking for a volunteer to be the 5th Grade Social Chair next year.  This role involves making 5th graders’ last year at Kloefkorn a fun and memorable one.  Duties include creating a T-shirt for the Salt Dogs game, helping with a May Day celebration, and organizing the Camp Kitaki field trip at the end of the school year.  If you are interested in this position or would like more info, please contact board@kloefkornpto.org.

Janet’s Jungle and Color Run

Thank you to all the Kloefkorn Cubs, their families, and staff for all the help they provided during Janet’s Jungle Fundraiser and the Color Run.  Without your dedicated efforts and enthusiasm, it would not have been possible! Thank you on behalf of the PTO!

Bookmobile

Don’t forget about the Bookmobile! It comes during the summer every other Wednesday from 6:00PM-7:00PM. Anyone with a Lincoln City Library card can check out books, magazines, DVDs, etc. Requests for items not in the Bookmobile can be made by placing special orders. Most items can be loaned for a 4-week period, with one renewal allowed. You can also make returns to the bus. For additional information click here.

Classroom Assignment Survey

At Kloefkorn School, we approach the important decision of class assignment in a very thoughtful and systematic manner, taking into consideration a variety of factors in developing class lists. Our first priority as we make assignments is to provide an optimal learning environment for all students. We strive for equitable, compatible, and balanced classes that take into account range of ability (heterogeneous grouping), gender, learning styles, and personality. We also look carefully at peer and social interaction patterns. Assignments for the 2017-18 school year will be made over the summer by teachers and administrators after extensive input and discussion and shared with parents electronically.  Waiting to inform students allows us to place students new to our school and to finalize teaching assignments that may change over the summer.

To provide input into the process, please complete this form and submit it by today, May 5th. Please note that due to the many factors that must be considered when making class assignments, we ask that parents not make specific teacher requests. The demands associated with achieving balanced classes make it difficult to honor all such parent requests. Please also know that not providing input will have no effect on the care given to each child’s placement.

Mayors Run

There are six heats with the first heat starting at 8 a.m. with 15-20 minutes between each heat. The heats are:

  • 8 a.m.: boys grades 5-6
  • 8:20 a.m.: girls grades 5-6
  • 8:40 a.m.: boys grades 3-4
  • 9 a.m.: girls grades 3-4
  • 9:20 a.m.: boys 2nd grade and under
  • 9:40 a.m.: girls 2nd grade and under

Any child may run with a heat of older children if they need to finish early. If you need to walk and plan to take over 12 minutes we encourage you to wait until after the first two heats.  No roller skates or blades, skate boards or dogs are allowed.

PBIS

At Kloefkorn we strive to create a positive partnership with families and communicate the supports we have in place. Behavioral health and academic success connect to learning inside AND outside of school. Through this partnership, a positive impact can been seen in academic and behavioral growth. A few ways we can enhance this important partnership between school and home include talking about the importance of learning with your child, praising their efforts, and recognizing improvements both academically and behaviorally. We are in need of volunteers for Kloefkorn Field Day. Field Day will be held on the last day of school, May 24th. Please consider signing up to volunteer and help make the last day of school an awesome experience for all. The times of each session are below. Hurray, hurray for Pajama Day!

Because Kloefkorn students and families sold over $15,000 in plants for the PTO Janet’s Jungle fund raiser, we will have an all-school Pajama Day on Thursday, May 18th. Students can wear their favorite jammies and also bring slippers to wear indoors. Please keep in mind when choosing your comfy-wear that we will still go outside for recess, as usual, so shoes are necessary.

Color Run

The third annual Kloefkorn Kilometer is Saturday May 13th 9-11 AM! This year’s event will include a Run, Bike Rodeo, Bike Check Station, Zumba, healthy foods and a free raffle!! Parking will be very limited, please walk or bike to this event.

You may register online at www.kloefkornpto.org/Kloefkorn-kilometer or by turning in a form to the office by Thursday, May 11. All children are welcome, you won’t want to miss this family fun event! This is an event to help bring more playground equipment to Kloefkorn – more tetherball courts, inclusive equipment, and supplies to help keep our grounds clean for all of the community to enjoy!

5th Grade Camp Kitaki

The Kloefkorn PTO is excited to celebrate our 5th Graders and everything they have achieved with a day filled with fun at Camp Kitaki on Monday, May 22nd! This year the PTO will be offering transportation as well as snacks for the field trip. Students will be participating in a variety of fun activities! The total amount due for each student is $28.00. Please make checks payable to Kloefkorn PTO or you may send cash or www.kloefkornpto.org/5th-grade-trip.

If you would like to provide a scholarship for a child in need, please mark the box on the form or online and include that money also.  Scholarships are available. Please sign up by Monday, May 15th.

Classroom Assignment Survey (New)

At Kloefkorn School, we approach the important decision of class assignment in a very thoughtful and systematic manner, taking into consideration a variety of factors in developing class lists. Our first priority as we make assignments is to provide an optimal learning environment for all students. We strive for equitable, compatible, and balanced classes that take into account range of ability (heterogeneous grouping), gender, learning styles, and personality. We also look carefully at peer and social interaction patterns. Assignments for the 2017-18 school year will be made over the summer by teachers and administrators after extensive input and discussion and shared with parents electronically.  Waiting to inform students allows us to place students new to our school and to finalize teaching assignments that may change over the summer.

 

To provide input into the process, please complete this form and submit it by May 5th. Please note that due to the many factors that must be considered when making class assignments, we ask that parents not make specific teacher requests. The demands associated with achieving balanced classes make it difficult to honor all such parent requests. Please also know that not providing input will have no effect on the care given to each child’s placement.

 

Kindergarten Orientation (New)

Kindergarten Orientation is on Thursday, May 4th from . Your incoming Kindergarten student will go to the classroom and do a fun activity with teachers and new classmates. Mrs. Jolley will go through a presentation.

 

Attention 5th Grade Parents (New)

Dr. Czapla will be coming to Kloefkorn on Thursday, April 27th to meet with incoming 6th grade families. He will meet with parents in the cafeteria from 7-8pm.

 

The Backpack Walk (New)

Thank you to everyone that helped fill the fridge! Field Day Volunteers Needed (New)

We are in need of volunteers for Kloefkorn Field Day. Field Day will be held on the last day of school May 24th. Please consider signing up to volunteer and help make the last day of school an awesome experience for all. The times of each session are below. Inspire Award Winners!

Every year the Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools is privileged to honor one student and one educator from each school who are an inspiration to their school and their community. These remarkable leaders gathered for an evening of celebration and recognition for their accomplishment. The Inspire Awards are the only district-wide celebration of excellence and hope that touches each of our 61 school communities.

Janet’s Jungle – Volunteers Needed

Janet’s Jungle is here and we need help setting up and getting purchased plants to families.  If you help volunteer on Friday, April 28th, you can take your plants home early and do not need to come back on Saturday.  This is a great opportunity for our Cubs to help out as well!  All volunteers welcome!

Earth Day (New)

Join us on Saturday, April 22 from 9:00-Noon to help clean up the Kloefkorn grounds.  Get your hands dirty with other Kloefkorn families as we clean out the plant beds and spread new mulch around the school.  We need your help to get this project finished in just 3 hours!  We need you AND your tools; if you have a wheel barrow, shovel, rake or bucket, please bring them along!

Camp Kitaki – 5th Grade (New)

The Kloefkorn PTO is excited to celebrate our 5th Graders and everything they have achieved with a day filled with fun at Camp Kitaki on Monday, May 22nd! This year the PTO will be offering transportation as well as snacks for the field trip. Students will be participating in the following activities: canoeing, rope course, archery, and the climbing tower. The total amount due for each student is $28.00. Please make checks payable to Kloefkorn PTO or you may send cash or pay online by clicking here. If you would like to provide a scholarship for a child in need, please mark the box below and include that money also.  Scholarships are available. Please sign up by Monday, May 15th.

 

Kloefkorn Kilometer Run (New)

The third annual Kloefkorn Kilometer is Saturday May 13th 9-11 AM! This year’s event will include a Run, Bike Rodeo, Bike Check Station, Zumba, healthy foods and a free raffle!! Parking will be very limited, please walk or bike to this event.  You may register online at www.kloefkornpto.org/Kloefkorn-kilometer or by turning in a form to the office by Thursday, May 11. All children are welcome, you won’t want to miss this family fun event! This is an event to help bring more playground equipment to Kloefkorn – more tetherball courts, inclusive equipment, and supplies to help keep our grounds clean for all of the community to enjoy!

 

Kloefkorn Staff Appreciation Week 2017 (New)

This year’s theme is all about the “sweetness” of Kloefkorn’s staff! Thank you for participating in Staff Appreciation Week!

This year PTO would like to recognize our sweet staff members in the following ways during the week of May 1:

  1. Please take the time to write a thank you card, note, or letter to your favorite staff members to tell them how SWEET you think they are! Art Show (New)

Mr. Fischer would love to have your help hanging art for the Kloefkorn Art Show. If you can volunteer about an hour of your time come to the art room on Tuesday April 18th. We will be starting right after school and will need help taping and hanging art.

 

Mayor’s Run (New)

This year marks the 30th Annual KFRX Mayor’s Run sponsored by Sandhill’s Publishing. Known as midwest America’s largest children’s run, the Mayor’s Run will be giving away 35 bikes and $1 from every entry will be donated to Woods Tennis Center – Taking the Game to the Community.

 

Any 6th grade or younger child is eligible to run in the Mayor’s Run. Parents, grandparents, older siblings or an adult sponsor are welcome to enter on the family plan and accompany younger runners in heats 3, 4, 5 and 6 and receive a t-shirt. Chorus & Band Date Changed (New)

Due to the Lancaster county Elections being held on May 2nd we have moved the choir concert to the same night as the band concert, Tuesday, April 25th. The band will begin at 6:00PM and the choir will start directly after at 7:00PM. The students will do a condensed version of the band/chorus concert for the school that same day at 9:15AM.

The orchestra concert will be held on Monday, April 24th at 6:00PM. They will do a condensed version of their concert for the school that same day at 1:45PM.

One Day Without Shoes (New)

Help us raise donations and awareness for People’s City Mission. Boxes have been set up in the front lobby for anyone that would like to drop off new or used shoes between now and April 11th. On April 11th we are allowing the students to wear fun socks and no shoes for the day if they donate $1. (Read More)

 

The Backpack Walk (New)

Thank you to everyone that helped fill the fridge! So far, we have raised around $1,000! Great job, Cubs! We will continue to show support by wearing our Backpack Program t-shirts to school on April 27th and by participating in the Backpack Extra Mile Walk on April 29th.  We will continue to collect donations until April 21st. T-shirts should be coming in the week of the 17th and will be distributed accordingly.

The support needed for the Backpack program continues to grow. This year, 45.8% of all LPS students (K-12) qualified for free and reduced lunch. That’s 18,014 students that we can help through this program. Everyone’s support is greatly appreciated!

 

Kloefkorn Preschool is celebrating the young child April 24-28, 2017! (New)

The “Week of the Young Child” is an annual celebration hosted by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers and families. The purpose of this week of celebration is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families, and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

Dear Kloefkorn Families,

While we still have eight weeks of school remaining for this year, planning for the 2017-18 school year is in the works! We are still working to finalize staffing for next year, but did want to make you aware of some upcoming personnel changes that will be taking place. We wish the best to the following staff members that will be leaving Kloefkorn:

We look forward to interviews in the next few weeks to have new hires at Kloefkorn.

Early Entrance to Kindergarten (New)

If your child turns 5 between August 1st and October 15th they are eligible to participate in an assessment conducted by LPS to determine possible early entrance to kindergarten.

If this is something that you are interested in you may stop in the front office to pick up an application starting April 3rd. To register, bring your completed application and original birth certificate to the front office and Christy will get you scheduled for an assessment. All assessments must be scheduled one week prior to the beginning of each round of testing and are completed at Eastridge Elementary. Click here to view available testing dates and learn more. 

Preschool 2017/18 accepting applications

Applications are available at any elementary school, on the Lincoln Public Schools Early Childhood website, and at the Early Childhood Office located at Hawthorne (use door # 2). Completed applications must be submitted (in-person) at the Early Childhood Office at 300 South 48th Street. Children are selected based on a variety of criteria listed on the application. Fill Their Fridge!

Fundraising envelopes are coming home today for The Backpack Program of Lincoln and will be due back by April 21st.  The annual Backpack Extra Mile Walk will be held on April 29, 2017 at 10:00am at East High. In partnership with The Food Bank of Lincoln, currently 2,291 LPS students at 32 LPS schools receive weekly food-filled backpacks. Over the past few years Kloefkorn has done an incredible job of fundraising for this amazing and important program. This is a great opportunity to help spread kindness around our community! Calling all Third Grade Parents

Is your student interested in playing a string instrument next year? Come meet Mrs. Holloman, our strings specialist and learn all the details about the fourth grade beginning strings program. Students may choose from violin, viola, cello or bass. The Information Night for Beginning Strings will be Tuesday, April 11th at 7:00 p.m. in the Kloefkorn cafeteria. The meeting will cover when and how to get an instrument, what to expect from the program and how to register your student. Questions will be taken at the end of the meeting. Please bring your student with you to the presentation!

Kloefkorn Kilometer

Would you like to help promote health and wellness in the Kloefkorn community? The PTO is looking for some caring adults to organize the Kloefkorn Kilometer. We have a great template for you to follow or bring some fresh ideas to our fun Saturday morning health fair. Please contact board@kloefkornpto.org if you are interested.

Plant Sale

The Kloefkorn PTO had great success last year with Janet’s Jungle Plant Sales and have decided to partner with them again for this year’s big fundraiser! Janet’s Jungle sells high quality plants at great prices.  Plants and distributors are personally selected by Janet and her team, and all plants are locally grown right here in the Midwest.  You’ll be getting premium plants and supporting our school!

Sales are being accepted now until April 10th.  Late orders will not be accepted this time so please make sure you get the order in by the due date. Pick up will be on Saturday, April 29th.

Prizes will be given for top selling students, top selling classrooms, and for achieving the school wide goal.
