A message from Mrs. Jolley
Dear Kloefkorn Families,
It seems impossible that the 2016-2017 school year is coming to a rapid close. In keeping with our focus on excellence in teaching and learning— right up to the final bell! – your help in assuring that the last week of school is safe and educational is appreciated. Our goal for the last week of school is a business-as-usual climate. We will continue to expect students to conduct themselves as they have all year – in a safe, respectful, responsible manner. Please do not allow your child(ren) to bring potential nuisance items to school (i.e. shaving cream, silly string, etc.) that may disrupt the learning environment.
Summer doesn’t have to mean a vacation from learning. Keep school skills sharp by including daily time to read and write in your child’s busy summer schedule AND… find plenty of time to rest, relax and have fun together.

Grand Parade- 1:45pm (weather permitting)
Join us in celebrating our namesake Bill Kloefkorn, and the close of another successful school year! Students in grades K-5 will walk in this special parade along with honorary guests including Mrs. Kloefkorn as Grand Marshal! Each grade’s theme will reflect something about Mr. Kloefkorn’s life.
Please join us along the parade route, which includes our “big” block of land including the roads of Glass Ridge, Meursault, Oakville. Streets around our school will be barricaded beginning at 1:30 (neighbors may notice a police presence), and the parade will begin shortly thereafter. Thank you for respecting our neighbors’ sidewalks.
Bring a lawn chair, wear your plaid, invite your favorite friends, grandparents, siblings, neighbors, and warm up your cheering voice as we celebrate the life – and honor the memory of – our beloved namesake Bill Kloefkorn.
Lost and Found
We have quite the coat collection in our Lost and Found right now along with other items. Feel free to stop in and take a look to see if anything belongs to your family. Anything left behind at the end of the school year will be donated to charity.
LPS Solar Eclipse Celebration
We are excited to announce that all Lincoln Public School students and staff will be invited to participate in a special LPS Solar Eclipse Celebration early in the 2017-18 school year!
On Monday, August 21, students and staff will take part in a solar eclipse experience for this once-in-a-lifetime event: a full solar eclipse visible in the Lincoln and southeast Nebraska area. Guided by specialists in all curriculum areas, this eclipse day of celebration will be preceded by a full week of rich, hands-on learning opportunities leading up to the grand finale.
Special safety glasses will be provided for all students and staff at Lincoln Public Schools – glasses that have been approved by the LPS Medical Advisory Committee. We will also be training staff and students the entire week leading up to the eclipse on safe viewing procedures. Alternative activities will be provided for students who choose to stay inside.
A committee of safety and science experts have been working for months to make sure this is a wonderful learning experience – and a safe activity. You will receive more detailed information about our celebration at the beginning of next school year. Watch for our videos and upcoming newsletter information!
LPS Social Workers
LPS social workers offer many resources for parents including valuable new trauma information.
Lincoln Public Schools social workers offer families help and support in the issues they face day to day in helping raise healthy, happy children.
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month in May, social workers call your attention to their newest resource: Trauma Informed Parenting.
This publication recognizes that trauma affects at least one in four of LPS students, and that LPS has made a commitment for every school to be “trauma-informed” by educating staff, students and parents. The resource offers signs and symptoms, additional resources and other valuable advice and information.
LPS social workers also offer a wide variety of resources for parents – such as guidance in dealing with depression in children and adolescents, the importance of bedtime, school attendance issues, and many more. You can find parent resources from our social workers on the Parent Center webpage on the LPS website (lps.org) – or at this link.
Negative meal balances need to be paid in full before June 2, 2017
The parent/guardian is responsible to pay for all school meal purchases made by their student(s). Negative balances can be paid in the school office until Wednesday, May 24, 2017. Online payments can be made through May 24. After this date, payments will need to be made at or sent to:

Negative balance meal accounts will be referred to a collection agency if they are not paid. If you have questions regarding your child’s negative meal account, please contact Accounting at 402-436-1700. We now offer payment by phone, using a credit or debit card. There is a $.70 convenience fee per transaction. Please contact accounting to make a payment by phone.
End-of-the-Year Cafeteria Refund Procedures
Cafeteria account balances will automatically carry over from this year to next, even for students changing schools within Lincoln Public Schools.
Students leaving the district can obtain a refund for any amount. Lincoln Public Schools will only refund balances for returning students that exceed $20.00. Students must request their refund to the cafeteria manager at our school (Carol Irons) by May 24th, 2017 or from the District Office Accounting Department starting June 1st, 2017. Refunds over $45.00 will be mailed to the parents.
Students who have left LPS in one school year and return in another school year will not have their former cafeteria balances reinstated unless it is a negative balance.
REMINDER: ALL NEGATIVE LUNCH BALANCES WILL BE REFERRED TO A COLLECTION AGENCY IF THEY ARE NOT PAID.
Attention 4th Grade Parents!
We need your help! Kloefkorn’s PTO is looking for a volunteer to be the 5th Grade Social Chair next year. This role involves making 5th graders’ last year at Kloefkorn a fun and memorable one. Duties include creating a T-shirt for the Salt Dogs game, helping with a May Day celebration, and organizing the Camp Kitaki field trip at the end of the school year. Janet’s Jungle and Color Run
Thank you to all the Kloefkorn Cubs, their families, and staff for all the help they provided during Janet’s Jungle Fundraiser and the Color Run. Without your dedicated efforts and enthusiasm, it would not have been possible! Thank you on behalf of the PTO!
Don’t forget about the Bookmobile! It comes during the summer every other Wednesday from 6:00PM-7:00PM. Anyone with a Lincoln City Library card can check out books, magazines, DVDs, etc. Requests for items not in the Bookmobile can be made by placing special orders. Most items can be loaned for a 4-week period, with one renewal allowed. You can also make returns to the bus. For additional information click here.

Library check-out is done for the school year, but visit the Kloefkorn library over the summer to check out books, participate in Makerspace activities, and sign up for the Lincoln City Libraries summer reading program. As a reminder, all library books are due and should be returned to the library.
