Things to Be Working On At Home

Many parents ask me how they can be working with their children to prepare them for Kindergarten. Here is my list of things that would be helpful at the beginning of the year.

1. Practice Using Scissors

2. Teach them to write and identify their first and last name

3. Practice counting, writing, and identifying numbers 1-20

4. Practice identifying and writing the capital and lowercase letters of the alphabet

5. Help your child practice their alphabet chant and the letters and sounds associated with it

6. Practice your weekly sight word writing lists at home

7. Have your students track what you read when you read to them with your finger from left to right. Even if what you are reading is way above them, having them track the print will help them read!
