BIST – Behavior Intervention and Support Team

Philosophy:
- Behavior Intervention Support Team (BIST) a unique outreach program of Ozanam, created an intervention model that allows teachers to confront disruptive behavior with grace and accountability. Our common goal is to provide every student with a safe and productive learning environment. We can accomplish this by providing our students with GRACE:

BIST Continuum
- Early Intervention:
- I see…. that you are talking
- Can you…stop talking
- Even though…you’d rather talk to your neighbor?
- Safe Seat
- Safe place in the classroom community where student can regain control and still be apart of the learning environment. This is not considered “Time Out”
- Students will complete a reflective sheet to be discussed with the teacher and a plan to prevent this behavior will be implemented.
- Buddy Room
- Student will use the Buddy Room if they are being unsuccessful in the Safe Seat.
- Safe seat in another first grade room. When this happens parents will be notified.
- Call for help
- Students need extra help and some “cool down” time.
