BIST – Behavior Intervention and Support Team

  • Philosophy:

    • Behavior Intervention Support Team (BIST) a unique outreach program of Ozanam, created an intervention model that allows teachers to confront disruptive behavior with grace and accountability. Our common goal is to provide every student with a safe and productive learning environment.  We can accomplish this by providing our students with GRACE:
      • Giving
      • Responsibility and
      • Accountability to
      • Children in
      • Education
  • BIST Continuum

    • Early Intervention:
      • I see…. that you are talking
      • Can you…stop talking
      • Even though…you’d rather talk to your neighbor?
    • Safe Seat
      • Safe place in the classroom community where student can regain control and still be apart of the learning environment. This is not considered “Time Out”
      • Students will complete a reflective sheet to be discussed with the teacher and a plan to prevent this behavior will be implemented.
    • Buddy Room
      • Student will use the Buddy Room if they are being unsuccessful in the Safe Seat.
      • Safe seat in another first grade room.  When this happens parents will be notified.
    • Call for help
      • Students need extra help and some “cool down” time.
