We have just started our unit on expository, or “how-to”, writing. To kick off our learning, students had to tell Mrs. Hollibaugh how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. A lot of laughs were heard as students told me to “pull apart the bread” (meaning separate the slices) and I proceeded to tear it apart into little pieces…. or when someone told me to get a blob of jelly and I dipped my hand in to scoop it out! It was a great lesson on using specific words to describe what you’re doing!

Yesterday we made lemonade as a class… and today we will begin a how-to writing piece on ‘HOW TO MAKE LEMONADE’. Did your kiddo tell you about it? If not, ask them how we made it. Ask them if it was delicious… I certainly thought it was!

At the end, the kiddos wanted to taste the lemon so I told them they could on ONE CONDITION… they must let me photograph their lemon face 🙂  Here are the pics…
