Welcome to Take Charge!
Take Charge is an integrated careers and personal finance course required for graduation and taken during the junior year. This course is part of the LPS overall systematic plan of college and career readiness and will help students become financially responsible, conscientious members of society. Students will set goals and adjust their personal learning plan by identifying their interests, skills and values through academic and career decision making. Students will develop understanding and skills in money management, budgeting, financial goal attainment, use of credit, insurance, investments and consumer rights and responsibilities. Application of academic concepts, technology, and career planning are integrated throughout the curriculum. The Take Charge class will help students create and implement their plan for an effective transition from high school to postsecondary education, the workforce, or military based on knowledge of self, career goals and financial consideration.

- TODAY: Long Term Budgets
- First pick 2 careers that interest you and find the annual salary for each (try to find entry level salary)
- Visit The Mint: Determining Your Budget and complete simulation
- Complete this 2 times (1 with each career salary that interests you)
- At the beginning enter in the annual salary for your career choice – it will then give you the monthly salary after taxes – jot this number down, you will need it for step 3.
- Continue to work through the simulation, answering questions assuming you are a college graduate just starting out in your career
- Open the following link: Long Term Budget worksheet
- You will work your way through this worksheet 2 times (once for each career choice). Try your best to be realistic – you may use some of the values from the simulation you completed in step 2 if you are unsure of what something may cost.
- Save to your desktop 2 times (first career as Long Term Budget 1 and second career as Long Term Budget 2)
- Make sure you are saving on YOUR laptop as I will show you how to upload for me to grade when I return on Thursday.
- If you finish early, work on missing/incomplete EverFi assignments and/or credit materials
