The second semester of choir begins at 8:00 a.m. Friday, January 12. The contract for any 4th and 5th grade students who would be NEW to choir in the spring semester is below as well as a t-shirt order form. Those students who were a part of the choir in the fall do not need to sign a contract again. Please contact me if you have any questions and we hope to see more students join us this spring!

The 3rd graders have been briefly introduced to our third grade play “Music and Me”. Students will be given directions and choices concerning tryouts for parts which will take place from Jan. 11-16 with results posted soon after. If your child is interested, having them read out loud for you with great expression over the holiday break would be a great help for them. The play is scheduled for Thursday April 26 and we will combine play practice with teaching curriculum during class until then.
As always, let me know if you have any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hello Wysong families,
My name is Mrs. Bush and I am thrilled to be the first Music Specialist at Wysong Elementary. I just finished my 26th year of teaching and my 13th year with LPS with additional teaching experiences in Kentucky and Ohio. This next year I am also serving on the National Executive Board of the National Association for Music Education as President Elect of the North Central Division. My passion is passing on my love of music by allowing students to CREATE, PERFORM, RESPOND AND CONNECT to music. Please check my page to find contact information, music curriculum, essential learning outcomes, and important dates/events.
Please feel free to contact me at email@example.com. I’m looking forward to another great year of working with and getting to know all of my Wysong family!

Learning Targets in music are goals put in student friendly “I Can” statements. While there are other activities we work on at the same time, here are the current essential learning objectives for each grade level:
Kindergarten: I can hear and sing correct pitches.
1st Grade: I can play a bordun on a steady beat.
2nd Grade: I can identify brass instruments.
3rd Grade: I can play “B” on recorder with a good tone.
4th Grade: I can write music for recorder using B-A-G.
5th Grade: I can compare musicals to opera and identify flats, sharps and naturals.
All students are currently working on songs for the all-school holiday sing. 4th graders are working on Heritage School songs for January.
I’m excited to let you know that students can have access to the Music Curriculum (Quaver) at home! Here are the instructions:
- Go on the LPS website and type in Quaver in the search bar.
- The students will then have to enter their LPS user name and password.
- That will then redirect them to a page that asks them if they have a Quaver account. They need to click the answer under No “create new account” and then it automatically signs them in.
- Once they do this, they won’t have to answer the question about an account again, it will just automatically sign them in when they put in their user name and password.
Enjoy exploring this curriculum and creating music!
Wysong School is fortunate to have been chosen by the New York Metropolitan Opera to be a part of their HD Live in Schools. We are the only district in Nebraska and one of only @50 schools across the country to be a part of this program. The Met provides educational materials and free tickets for students in the 5th grade to attend Opera streamed live from the Met to the Ross Theater on UNL’s campus. Tickets are available on a first come first served basis and permission slips are sent home before each performance. Parents are always welcome to join us by purchasing their ticket at the Ross Theater before the show. The study of Opera is an LPS benchmark for 5th graders in music.
