About the 4th Grade Teachers

Mrs. Barton- Room 157

Hi! My name is Mrs. Barton and I am excited to be your child’s teacher this year! This will be my 20th year at Holmes. My first year I taught half time 6th grade in the afternoon and filled in the other half with a long term subbing job for morning kindergarten. The other 13 years I spent teaching 5th grade. This will be my sixth year as a 4th grade teacher.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Jeff, and our two kids. My daughter, Grace, is a sophmore at East High School, and my son, Eli, is in 7th grade at Lux Middle School!  My husband works at Fiserv designing banking software.  I keep pretty busy attending music and sporting events for my kiddos, but I love to read, bake, and cook whenever I get a chance.  I also love taking long walks with our dog Charley.

Hello! Welcome Back Hedgehogs!  I am Mrs. Horne and I am so happy to be teaching at Holmes again this year.  This will be my 21st year at Holmes, and my 32nd year teaching for the Lincoln Public Schools. I started my career teaching at Hartley and taught there for 11 years.  I have always taught either 3rd or 4th grade.

I have been married to my husband, Virgil Horne for 33 years. He works as a cardiac specialist in the Cath. Lab at Bryan Health-East.   We have 3 children-Seth, 28, who lives and works in Denver, Colorado, and twins, Ethan and Elisabeth, 25.  Ethan lives in Brooklyn, New York, and works in Manhattan. Our daughter, Elisabeth graduated from UNL last May in Interior Design and works at Coffey and Co. Interior Design Firm.

In my free time, I love to work in my flower gardens, read, watch movies and spend time with our family and friends.  Our house is pretty quiet these days, but I always look forward to coming home to a friendly greeting from our American Pit Bull, Elja (Asia). I am anxiously awaiting the start of the Husker Football and Volleyball seasons! Go Big Red and Go Hedgehogs!!
