Valentine’s Day is this month and in the spirit of offering gratitude – Lincoln Public Schools is taking a mid-winter break to send a thank you card to our community, sharing our appreciation for support of our public school district.

We are sharing the love in several ways:

• Every community member will receive the LPS Annual Report in the mail over the next few weeks – including the complete LPS Strategic Plan.
• Superintendent Steve Joel has issued his 15-minute video State of the Schools Report.
• We are sharing an assortment of thank-you videos and photos – thanking the community for supporting LPS.

Please join us on January 25th at Anderson Public Library for Huntington’s 1st School Night at our neighborhood public library.   Would love to see you and you family there!

During our 2nd quarter awards assembly, Mr. Devney was recognized by students and teachers for receiving his doctorate from UNL recently.  Students presented him with a number of books that were signed by them to recognize his big accomplishment.  Mr. Devney’s wife and daughters joined us in the surprise.

On December 19th Bruce Arant, author and illustrator, visited all students during our December day 0 activities.  Bruce is the author of “Simpson’s Sheep Won’t Go to Sleep” and “Simpson’s Sheep Just Want to Sleep”.  We’re lucky that Bruce lives in Omaha so he is a great local resource for us.  He taught students how to draw all kinds of facial expressions that they can use in their own artwork.  And, for the younger students, he walked them through the process of publishing a book.  This inspiration will hopefully inspire our students to draw and write themselves.  Thank’s Bruce.

Thursday, Sept. 28th we were very fortunate to have Laura Vaccaro Seeger visit all Kindergarten – 2nd grade students here at Huntington.  This was possible because of the Plum Creek Festival sponsoring her.  We are very thankful.  She is both an author and an illustrator.  Some of her books include, First the Egg, Bully, the Dog and Bear series and many other

This year, on PLC days, Huntington’s specialists team (Music, PE, Art, Computer Science & Library Media teachers) are planning fun collaborative events for all students during their regular specials time.  Last month we had a number of makerspaces for the students to explore.  A makerspace is a place where students can gather to create, invent, tinker, explore and discover using a variety of tools and materials.   They had great fun building, playing giant checkers, deconstructing radios, calculators and radios, and much more.
