Art Curriculum at Humann

Visual Arts Education in the Lincoln Public Schools is designed so that students will develop and apply ideas, knowledge, and skills to CREATE, RESPOND to, PRESENT, and CONNECT art with the human experience.

Create

Create art to generate ideas by using the creative process to make works of art using a variety of materials, exploring subjects and themes, developing individual expression, demonstrating perseverance and the ability to work collaboratively to achieve artistic goals.

  • Selection-choosing work to display. Creating a portfolio of work.
  • Presentation Venue-displaying your work.

Respond

Respond to understand and appreciate art by exploring and using the critical process to examine works of art, which leads toward learning about themselves and others.

  • Describe-what’s going on? What do you see that makes you say that? What more can we find? (subject matter, media, elements of art, principles of design, technique).
  • Analyze-identify and categorize elements of art and principles of design.
  • Interpret- how does the work make you feel and why?
  • Evaluate- communicate personal artistic choice and ideas. I like this because… I chose this because…

Connect

Connect individual perspective and identity through the study of art: artist identity, time and place, purpose and function by examining historical, cultural, and contemporary context in art and life.

  • I can be an artist.
  • I am an artist.
  • Understanding and appreciating that:
  • People have always made art.
  • Art is made for different purposes.
  • Art tells a story, shares experiences, and connects us to the world.
