Teachers

Kendra Barkdoll has been teaching at East since 2000 and currently teaches AP Statistics and Advanced Algebra.  She graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney after growing up in Burwell, Nebraska and enjoys fishing and riding ATV’s on their acreage.

Available for help 7:30-7:55am and 3:00-3:20pm (except for Tuesday afternoons) in Room 104 or the Math Office (112).

 

 

 

 

IMG_0775Bryan Baxter is new this year to the East High Math Department.  He graduated from UNL in 2012 after completing his student teaching at Lincoln Southeast High School and teaches first year Algebra and Geometry.  Mr. Baxter’s Website

Mr. Baxter is available to help students before and after school in room 106 or the math office, room 112.

 

 

 

 

 


 

Jane Dougherty has been at East High since 2001 and currently teaches Differentiated and regular Advanced Algebra.  She grew up in Sterling, Nebraska, graduated from UNL and enjoys running (early in the morning) and attending her children’s activities.

Available for help before school from 7:30 to 7:55am or after school until 3:30pm (except Tuesdays) in the Math Office (112) or in Room 111.

 

 

 

 

Tanya Hoham has taught at East since 2008 and is currently teaching Pre-Calculus and Advanced Algebra.  She has a degree in mathematics and English from UNL and enjoys reading, music, puzzles, crafts and watching family sporting events.  Tanya’s husband Jeff is an English teacher and soccer/tennis coach here at East as well.  Ms. Hoham’s Website.

Available for help before school every morning in Room 105 or the Math Office (112).  After school by appointment.

 

 

 

Joe Hovorka has been teaching at East since 2000 and currently teaches AP Calculus, Pre-Calculus D, and Geometry D.  A graduate of East High himself (and UNL), Mr. Hovorka also coaches JV girls tennis and enjoys reading, biking and barbecuing in his spare time.  Mr. Hovorka’s Website.

Bret Koenig has taught at East since 1998 and currently teaches Diff Geometry, Geometry and Geometry Plus.  After graduating from East and UNL he returned to East to teach and also enjoys being involved in many sporting, outdoor and church related activities outside of school.  Mr. Koenig’s Website.

John Matzke has been a teacher and the math department chair at East since 2010.  He graduated from UNL and currently teaches PreCollege Math and Algebra Block.  In his free-time he enjoys solving story problems, biking and landscaping.  Mr. Matzke’s Website

Todd Noble graduated from East and UNL and has been a Spartan teacher since 2010.  He currently teaches Geometry D, Diff Advanced Algebra and the second year of Geometry Plus and enjoys going to LOTS of Spartan athletic events where he watches both the game as well as his daughter who is a Spartan cheerleader.

Available for help starting at 7:15am in Room 119.

 

 

 

 

Leona Penner retired from teaching at East High after the 2011-2012 school year but still helps with the East High Mathematics Club.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

IMG_5618Linda Roh has taught at Millard West and Boys Town in Omaha and also subbed in the Lincoln Public Schools for a number of years.  Linda joined the East High math department in 2013 and is teaching Geometry and Advanced Algebra. 

She is available for help at 7:20am (except Thursdays) and most days after school until 3:30pm in room 107 or the math office (112).

 

 

 

 

 

Cathy Sphon has been teaching at East since she graduated from UNL in 1989.  She was the recipient of the Scottish Rite Teacher of the Year Award in 2003 given to one teacher in LPS each year.  She is currently teaching Algebra and Algebra Block. 

Available to help students in room 221 from 7:30-8:00am and after school (except for Tuesdays).


 

 

 

Mike Sterns is a former Spartan and UNL grad who came back to East in 2006 and is currently teaching Pre-Calculus and Geometry.  In his free time he officiates basketball and football games, goes on bike rides and ushers at church.

Available for help in Room 108 from 6:45-7:45am M-T-Th-F and 7:15-7:45am Wednesdays.  After school by appointment.
