StateACT Test for Juniors Only

On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, all students who are current juniors at East High will be taking the ACT exam as part of state testing.  The test will begin at 8 a.m.  All juniors should report to the building no later than 7:45 a.m. The door utilized for entering the testing will be at our gyms/concourse — Door 23. Only students who have already completed the pre-inventory bubbling will be allowed to test. Pre-bubbling will happen during classes April 1-3.  The anticipated time for standard time test completion is approximately 12:15 p.m. 

There will be no school for students in the 9th, 10th, or 12th grades on Tuesday, April 9th due to staff being involved in test administration duties. Regular classes will resume on Wednesday, April 10th for all students.

The Nebraska Attorney General’s Youth Conference

Nebraska’s Attorney General Mike Hilgers is inviting high school juniors to participate in the Nebraska Attorney General’s Youth Conference at the Nebraska State Capitol on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The conference will provide Nebraska youth with an experience of state government and law.

This year, a limited number of high school juniors from across the state will be selected to attend. Conference attendees will discuss and debate current issues, hear from AGO Bureau Chiefs, expand their understanding of the legal process in Nebraska, and eat lunch at the Governor’s Residence.  Nominated students should be interested in the process of government and law. Accuplacer Exam

Are you planning on attending Southeast Community College next year?  Do you still need to take the Accuplacer Exam? If you answered YES…..then mark your calendar and save the date!  Thursday April 18th, we will be giving the Accuplacer exam at East.  Sign-up information will be posted after Spring Break in the Graduation Google classrooms.

Jobs and Extended Learning Opportunities (JELO)

Is your child looking for a job or other extended learning opportunity? Students can use their Chromebook or LPS Student Portal account to check out our electronic bulletin board by going to lps.org and typing in the keyword “JELO”. (Students must be logged in to their LPS Student Portal to view the board.) Students in grades 6-12 will find information about a wide variety of opportunities available. The JELO board is updated every Wednesday afternoon.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

The National Honor Society Eligibility list now is posted in the 2025 Graduation Google classroom. All eligible juniors were sent an invitation to join the NHS Eligibility classroom through their LPS email. Applications to apply are open and must be submitted by 3 PM Friday, March 15th. To be eligible for membership consideration you must be a current junior with a weighted cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher through at least 5 high school semesters and a minimum of 150 graded credits.

Community Awareness Event: Keeping Current – Youth Vaping and Mental Health

Schools, parents, caregivers and communities all play a role in providing supportive pathways for our youth as they navigate childhood and adolescence. Lincoln Public Schools is partnering with School Community Intervention and Prevention (SCIP) and Region V Systems to put on valuable community presentations about how to support the health and well-being of our community’s youth.

Vaping poses significant health risks to our youth. While youth may start vaping for a variety of reasons, a large number of young people vape nicotine or marijuana to lessen feelings of stress, anxiety or depression.
