January Updates

During December the class did research with Mrs. Helwege.  All students were to complete the paper by January 5.  Now, we are getting ready for our oral presentations.  Students have signed up to present their research to the class.  The presentations will take place on January 13, 14, or 15.  Each student will need a visual when they present.  The visual can be a poster, a model, or a power point presentation.

On January 20, students began work on a New Year’s Resolution essay.  The body of the paper with include a paragraph on a school goal, a goal for home, and a personal goal.  The essay is due January 26.

January 5 was day one of unit 4.  That means testing will be on January 9 this week.  Other tests this month will be on January 16 and January 26.  You will notice that testing changes to a Monday on January 26, because there is no school on January 19 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Baby it’s cold outside!  What a great time of year to curl up with a good book.  Students got their literature books today, January 6.  The morning class is reading, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, and the afternoon class is reading, Al Capone Does My Shirts.  Both groups of students need to read pages 1-70 by January 14 and bring a completed Thinkmark to their literature discussion group.  The next literature group meeting will be January 21.  The students need to be ready to discuss pages 1- 140.

Mark your calendars. Parent Teacher conferences will be held at Scott Middle School on February  3 and 5 from 3:30 to 6:30.
