Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year

Hello,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! We are just a few weeks away! I am so excited to get started. I have been busy taking classes this summer and have learned so much! I hope you have all had a wonderful and restful summer. This website will give you some information about the school year, the curriculum, the schedule, expectations and general updates. Please take some time to explore it.

I will have a student teacher for first semester,  Mr. Mettenbrink is from Doane and he will be with us until December.

We have new science standards and an updated math curriculum. The biggest change will be chrome books for the students to use.

Computers in the classroom

We have been using computers in the classroom the last few days. The students have enjoyed getting on Wonders at school. They are practicing their user names and passwords. If you ever want to know what we are doing in class, read the stories we are reading, check out Wonders.

The 5th graders came up this week and showed us their Chrome Books. It was very exciting.

As part of my ongoing education and being a life long learner, I am taking a class at UNL all about technology in the classroom. I will be using more and more technology in our room for reviewing skills and having the students interact with technology.

December

I can not believe how fast the school year is going! I just wanted to let you know a few things that are happening in December in 2nd grade.

Junior Achievement will be here next week for our Social Studies Unit on “We the Workers.”

On Tuesday, December 15th, it is PLC day.

We have a short week on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 21 and 22. We have our Unit Math and Unit Reading tests to take that week as well as our Gingerbread Train activities planned. If your child is not going to be at school during these two days, please let me know so they can get their testing done before the break.

On Monday, December 21st, we are making Gingerbread trains from 2:35-3:35. I will be sending home a letter to ask for donations early next week. You are welcome to join us as they create their trains.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

The week of Dec. 15-19

Hi Families,

I just wanted to send out some reminders for this week…

It is the end of the quarter on Friday and the end of multiple unit.

This is a heavy test week for the students. We have 6 reading assessments, a writing assessment, a social studies assessment and a math assessment. Spread out throughout the week, of course. We do NOT have a spelling post test this week, no words to study at home. We will take a pre test, words will come home over the break.

PLC day is tomorrow,  students are out at 2:18.

Thursday afternoon from 1:00-2:30, we will be making our gingerbread trains in our room. Please join us if you can. This is a nice activity, their creations are great.  If you forgot what you need to bring or have any questions about it, please email or call me.

As a school, we are collecting food for the Food Bank of Lincoln through Friday.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
