Weekly Update 11/11-11/15

This week we finished our Trees Study. To celebrate, Mrs. Bowhay came in to play her guitar (instrument made from wood) and sing with us! During this study we talked about food that grows on trees, animals that live in trees, how trees change, who works with trees, and what you can do with parts of trees. Take some time to ask your child what they know about trees.

During small groups this week we learned about graphing, practiced drawing pictures about stories, and about different ways to sort. The students practiced how to sort by color, shape, and size. They also had opportunities to explain why they were putting buttons in certain groups.

Our social emotional curriculum focused on the same vs different feelings. We talked about how it’s ok to feel differently than someone about the same situation. For example, some friends might feel excited to go to the dentist and other friends might feel scared or nervous.

Weekly Update 11/4-11/8

This week we talked about how trees change and started talking about what we can do with parts of trees. We spent some time observing trees around Kloefkorn and coming up with ideas about how they have changed since school started.

In small groups this week we made letters with playdoh, working retelling stories, and used letter stamps. During our Second Step lesson we worked on identifying more feelings. This week we talked about the emotions surprised, angry/mad, and scared/afraid. We talked about how you can focus on someones face to let you know how they are feeling or you can focus your attention on the situation.

Family Socialization

Our first family socialization will take place during our fall party on November 25 from 2:00-2:30pm. There will be different stations that you and your child(ren) will rotate through including a snack station, a bean bag toss, BINGO, and a make and take craft! Please note that the party ends at 2:30. You can either take your child at that time or they will be dismissed at our regular time. Due to the Kloefkorn dismissal time, you will not be allowed to stay throughout the remainder of our day.

Weekly Update 10/22-11/1

This week we wrapped up our discussion about who takes care of trees and started talking about how trees change. We worked hard to put together pictures of trees using the different parts and talked about how trees grow just like us!

Our small groups this week consisted of making playdoh, making letters in shaving cream, and practicing patterns.

Our social emotional curriculum focused on using our Always Ask First rule which states that you must always ask the person in charge before you do or take anything from anyone. We also began talking about good and bad substances for your body. We spent a lot of time talking about who can safely give us medicine and who should not be giving us medicine. Ask your child if they remember the rules surrounding these topics!

Family Socialization

Our Family Socialization will be on November 25 from 2:00-2:30pm! We will have various games/activities that you can participate in with your child in the classroom.  Please note that the party ends at 2:30pm and you are welcome to take your child home at that time or you can leave and your child will be dismissed at our regular time. Due to the Kloefkorn dismissal time, we will not be allowing family members to stay throughout the remainder of our day.
