We have had a fun and busy full week of preschool! This week we focused on who’s names we need to know at school and what to do if we get sad or scared at school. We were able to draw family portraits, talk about who we played with, and even got to take a building tour!
On Wednesday, we got to go to the library to check out books! Mrs Mason, our librarian, talked to us about how important it is to take good care of the books that we borrow each week. Books are due back to the library every Wednesday.
We introduced our writing journals during large group on Friday. These journals are a place for the students to practice their writing and drawing skills, articulation skills, and their ability to answer questions. These journals will be sent home at the conclusion of the school year so that you can see the progress that your child has made in these areas.
In small groups this week we were able to continue exploring the various interest areas in the classroom. We learned the appropriate ways to use markers, crayons, water colors, and playdoh in the art area, how to use big books in the library area, how to play with water and sand in the sensory table, and how to use rhythm sticks in the music area. Next week we will be going on a color hunt around the classroom, learning how to identify the letters of our names, and going on a name hunt in the classroom.
We continued reviewing our car and traffic safety rules during our social emotional lessons. We pretended to look all ways before crossing the street and to buckle up when getting in a car. Next week we will begin our Second Step curriculum and focus on welcoming and listening skills.
Each Friday, your child will bring home a Friday folder in their backpack. These folders contain letters from the school, book orders, practice sheets, and artwork. Please empty these folders and place them back into backpacks to return on Monday. The worksheets that are sent home are optional activities that you can complete with your child at home. These will typically correspond with the letter of the week that we are focused on in the classroom. Book orders can be entered online using the classroom code.
