Writing Skills seen in First Grade
- Use of correct beginning sound
- Use of correct ending sound
- Use of correct middle sound
- Sounds in words placed in the correct order
- Uses mostly lower case letters in words
- Leaves space between words
- More and more sight words are spelled correctly
The students will be writing small moment stories throughout the year. The stories need to include details with a beginning, middle and end. Students will be encouraged to use a lead and a satisfying ending. These stories should be five pages in length. Adding details is a main focus. Editing and revision skills are taught. The children will be writing independently for approximately 25 minutes a day.
An All About Book, a research paper and poetry are additional units of study second semester.
