Spot us being great spellers!

The first spelling test is Friday, September 8.  Some of the words may be challenging, so studying the words at home each week will help your child be successful.  The list should come home on the first day of the school week.  Tests will be administered on Fridays or Thursdays of shortened weeks.  Lists can be lost, therefore, it is our goal to post spelling lists on our website.  On this list you will see weekly words including challenge words.  The weekly tests will also include words from previous weeks.  These words are not on the lists below.  We are checking to see if the students are retaining the words from week to week.  Ideas for studying spelling words are listed below.  Spelling is “HUGE”!  Thank you for helping!

Jump Into Spelling with these Spelling Tips

  • Write your words on a cookie sheet filled with rice, pudding, or powdered jello– Use your finger!
  • Roll Playdough into snakes and form the letters of each word.
  • Squirt some shaving cream on the tub or shower, smooth it out and write your words in it.
  • Use yarn to form each of the letters.
  • Get a partner and write the words on their back, then switch.
  • Place sandpaper under your paper, then write the words with a crayon.
  • Use glue to form the letters, let it dry overnight.  Practice by feeling the raised letters.
  • Paint your words on the sidewalk with a paintbrush and water.
  • Use watercolors to paint your words.
  • Write the vowels in red and the consonants in blue.
  • Use magnets to spell the words on the refrigerator.
  • Practice typing your words on the computer.

Spelling lists will be sent home on Mondays.  Tests will be given on Fridays unless noted.
