Math homework will come most everyday on goldenrod colored paper. If there is no homework, we will send out a class email. It is your child’s responsibility to turn in homework each morning!
Some ways to encourage mathematical thinking in your child:
- Have your child help with cooking-helping read the recipe and measuring.
- Play board games and card games together.
- Practice playing store using real money and items.
- Help your child pay for items when they are purchasing an item with their money.
- Encourage estimating in various ways-number of objects, liquid, dry and linear measurement.
- Sorting laundry or other household items-lights, darks, colors, size, shape, etc.
- Talk with your child about how they’ve sorted items, built items, or organized items.
- Use a calendar to discuss and plan weekly and monthly activities. Use terms such as yesterday, today, and tomorrow to relate to events in your life.
- Involve your child when you are figuring out mathematical problems.
- When your child is doing homework, have your child explain the strategy he/she used to solve the problem.
Practice addition and subtraction facts through 10!
Children are expected to pass a two minute timed test with 20 problems by the end of the year.
