Math homework will come most everyday on goldenrod colored paper.  If there is no homework, we will send out a class email.  It is your child’s responsibility to turn in homework each morning!

Some ways to encourage mathematical thinking in your   child:

  1. Have your child help with cooking-helping read the recipe and measuring.
  2. Play board games and card games together.
  3. Practice playing store using real money and items.
  4. Help your child pay for items when they are purchasing an item with their money.
  5. Encourage estimating in various ways-number of objects, liquid, dry and linear measurement.
  6. Sorting laundry or other household items-lights, darks, colors, size, shape, etc.
  7. Talk with your child about how they’ve sorted items, built items, or organized items.
  8. Use a calendar to discuss and plan weekly and monthly activities.  Use terms such as yesterday, today, and tomorrow to relate to events in your life.
  9. Involve your child when you are figuring out mathematical problems.
  10. When your child is doing homework, have your child explain the strategy he/she used to solve the problem.

Practice addition and subtraction facts through 10!

Children are expected to pass a two minute timed test with 20 problems by the end of the year.
