Wow! This is my 35th year of teaching. Time flies when you love what you do! I began teaching in the Waverly School District. I taught sixth grade, first grade, kindergarten, and Title 1 Reading. This is my twelfth year at Pyrtle. I taught kindergarten and am currently teaching first grade here at Pyrtle. I love teaching. Pyrtle is a GRRR-eat place to learn!
My husband Steve and I have 2 married sons. We live in Lincoln. My family loves spending time together at our cabin near York. We have 2 Boston terriers named Taz and Joey.
Professional Experience
I attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln and graduated with a degree in elementary education. I continued my education and received a Master’s Degree from UNL. I am a life long learner and continue to take classes and attend workshops related to my teaching career.

Paula Brandt

My name is Paula Brandt and I am thrilled to be part of the first grade team here at Pyrtle School. I have been in the Lincoln Public Schools district since 1995 and have worn a variety of hats from library media to classroom. This is my 25th year in education! I am originally from the small town of Spencer, NE, but have resided in Lincoln since 1988. I live with my husband Sven and two of our children. Hanna is a sophomore at East High School and Nicklas is a third grade student at Pyrtle. We also have two grown children, Samantha and Christian. When I am not at school, I enjoy reading, cooking and spending time with family and friends. I look forward to meeting new students, families, and neighbors at Pyrtle this year!

My name is Jessica Hames and I am so excited to be part of the first grade team here at Pyrtle School. This is my fourth year of teaching. I absolutely love being in the classroom! Pyrtle is an amazing school to be apart of and a fantastic place to learn! I have spent my whole life in Lincoln and am a proud graduate of East High School. When I am not at school, I enjoy reading, working out, and spending time with family and friends. I look forward to meeting new students and families at Pyrtle this year!
