ardour: the new digital audio workstation
Is GarageBand not meeting your needs any longer? I just came across an open source tool that seems to be a more flexible, professional option for Mac/Linux.
I’ve not installed or used it (yet) but it claims to be able to do: multichannel recording, non-destructive editing with unlimited undo/redo, full automation support, a powerful mixer, unlimited tracks/busses/plugins, timecode synchronization, and hardware control from surfaces like the Mackie Control Universal. If you’ve been looking for a tool similar to ProTools, Nuendo, Pyramix, or Sequoia, you might have found it.
FYI: it is not a sound file editor, and does not work on the “loop” method like Garage Band.
