These days we in Education are (finally) starting to have the hard conversations about whether we are really preparing our students for their futures, or if we are preparing them for our own age-old idea of what their futures will be.

Today Will Richardson asks the sort of questions I hope we are all asking ourselves. How should we go about teaching kids to write in 2007? Obviously we need to cover the same basics of writing instruction that we have for the past 150 years. However, if we are not addressing the students’ need to be aware of the contexts they are writing in and how that should shape their words, we are doing them a huge disservice I believe. 

Here is the follow-up question for bonus points. Should we be teaching kids about blog posts, commenting, tweeting and chatting? Or should the kids be teaching US
