This week in our study we talked about how to make and use tubes and tunnels. We looked at and practiced using a shipping tube. We talked about what we could ship in it and why it is better than and envelope for some things. We looked at pictures of different playgrounds that have tubes we can play in or with and we started talking about marble runs. In our small groups this week we planned on what materials we might need to make a marble run ourselves. This coming week we will begin construction on our marble runs. For the end of the study we will be racing our marble runs against each other. The students are pretty excited about making them. We covered some great vocabulary words this week as well. We talked about how “gravity” helps the marbles move toward the ground and a “detour” is when we direct something to a different place. Ask your students about the marble run we built as a whole class on Friday with some detours. 🙂
In second steps this week we learned about “Saying the Problem” this is our first step in solving problems. When there is a problem we first have to calm our body using our calm down steps (hands on tummy, say stop, name my feeling, belly breathe). Then we can say the problem (ex. “I can’t fond my favorite toy.”) Please take some time to look at the home link and continue practicing these skill at home.
We are excited to be starting our last round of home visits this coming week. If you have not already signed up for your visit, please do so as soon as possible. You can check your time or sign up at the link above.
You should have received a letter in backpacks on Friday about The Week of the Young Child. We will be celebrating this soon and taking a break for a week from our study. There is an opportunity for you to participate in the fun week on Friday the 12th. We will be playing games with family members who attend. Here is a copy of the flyer if it was lost. Let us know if you have any questions.
We got a visit from Ms. Jamie and her new baby boy Nolan this week. We got a great picture of her and the PM class.
See you all soon! Thank you for all you do for us and your students!
