We had a wonderful week last week. We finished up our Simple Machines study by solving simple problems with different simple machines. We figured out how to move heavy blocks to the other side of the room (complex machine/2 wheel dolly) and how to get blocks on top of a shelf easier (pulley). There are some picture on the photos page of these challenges. They did a great job!
We are now starting a new study on tubes and tunnels. Tubes are anything that is round, hollow in the middle and can be open or closed at the ends. Tunnels are large tubes that you can travel through. We have just introduced these to students and have traveled through our play tunnel this week. We have added several tubes to our classroom centers for them to explore.
In Second steps this week we talked about inviting friends to play and giving play ideas. We can invite others to play by using a kind voice and asking them to come play. We can notice others who are not playing and invite them to play. We also talked about giving play ideas and taking turns giving play ideas. Check out the home link for ideas about how to help foster this skill at home.
Just a reminder that our next family socialization is coming up this Friday from 5-6pm in our preschool classroom. You can bring family members and enjoy some fun and learning about the importance of literacy. If you are able to make it feel free to wear pajamas and bring your child’s favorite book. We will be watching a quick video about literacy in young children, DEAR (drop everything and read) time with a small activity, a small snack and a Dr. Seuss silly photo booth. We are looking forward to having a wonderful time! Hope to see you all there!
This week we will be finishing up our home visits and getting ready for our parent teacher conferences the following week. Please take some time to look at the time slot you have for conferences. These can be found on the home visit and conferences sign-up page by following the link above. These will last only about 15 min and are held at Pyrtle in the preschool room.
Thank you for all you do! Hope to see you all next Friday. Please let us know if you have any questions.
