The Bryan Student Service Team was created to work with students regarding attendance or grades on a regular basis to ensure academic success. The team meets weekly to discuss student progress. Attendance data is studied on a daily basis while academic updates are obtained every two weeks. This work is critical to the overall success of our students in fulfilling their graduation requirements.
Developing and maintaining regular attendance is one of the most important steps to becoming a successful student. When a student is not in school, the possibility of learning the classroom objectives is significantly reduced. Students will be referred to the Student Service Team when they are absent more that 5 times in any one class within any one quarter. Students will work with a Student Service Team member to create a plan for improving their attendance.
Students earning a grade below 70% in any one class will also be referred to the Bryan Student Service Team. Students will work with a Student Service Team member to create a plan for improving their achievement. The plan will include strategies for students to improve their grades such as opportunities for additional support, use of relearning and retesting over essential objectives, and/or remaining on campus during lunch to complete missing formative and summative work. At the end of the grading period, if classroom performance does not improve the student will be placed on Academic Probation for the subsequent quarter. In the quarter subsequent to being placed on Academic Probation, a student must earn credits in all classes to remain continually enrolled.
Our focus will center on building hope and improving achievement in all of our students. While we will continue the good work that has been going on for some time, we know that when our students are engaged, have consistent attendance and produce high quality work we have an opportunity to work toward our collective potential. We look forward to making this our best semester ever!
