Junkyard Ensemble Project

This is a great project for the students to show what they have been learning throughout our short time together.  The students will hear an introduction which includes the expectations for their project.  Then, the students will be divided into groups of 4 or 5 to begin planning their ensemble.  They need to plan who is responsible for what they need to make and bring to school–by the NEXT class.  The students must create an instrument from ‘junk’–something that really is NOT an instrument.  They can make it from junk or just use recyclable items that make COOL sounds.  My idea is for them to be creative and THINK about what sounds will work well together.  Parents are encouraged to help and give suggestions.

**NO GLASS, WATER, or SHARP EDGES!!!

Then we start writing rhythms for each instrument sound and making sure they work well together.  Each class until the Project Performance Day will be used for group practices.

It is REQUIRED that every student have an ‘instrument’ of some sort to play during this project!

PROJECTS need to be brought to class on…

>X day classes due:  Monday, Dec. 2 (right after Thanksgiving break)

>Y day classes due: Tuesday, Dec. 3

On the Project Performance day, each group will perform their written ensemble, while everyone else assess the performance based on 4 categories:

Creative use of materials for the instruments

Creative rhythms that work well together

Focus of the group–staying together and following a beat

Organization of the group
