Students will learn information about the African countries, especially the western coast area, their music traditions, instruments, culture, etc. We will discuss the importance of drumming for this culture. We will learn ostinatos (repeated patterns) to play on African drums and other instruments and create an ensemble. Ultimately, we will be able to play along with a song from Liberia.
Students will be assessed on their ability to use correct drumming techniques and perform in an ensemble.
