Unidad 2.2 – ¿Qué vamos a hacer?

Students are continuing with the question – what are we going to do? from the first review unit. The blue 3 page vocab and note sheet should stay in the students folder and use it in class daily and also for nightly study sessions. Students should be studying from this 5 nights a week for 10-15 minutes. Vocabulary has been completed and a few words were added. The focus is on bodyparts, items used to get ready for one’s day, sequencing words, reflexive verbs and how to conjugate them. So far we have worked with how to conjugate using one verb (will do another way later). Today students took notes on the Present Progressive and practiced it in class. A quiz will be this Friday, Sept 29th over all of the above. Next week, students will complete an in-class hand written booklet, summative (instead of a test) All work must be completed in the classroom.

Our first Test was over Lección Preliminar, pp 2-31. This was all review material from First Year. The first quiz (p.2-9) covered Introductions and describing people. Students reviewed definite and indefinite articles in Spanish and agreement (masculine/feminine/singlular/plural), the verbs ser and tener, subject pronouns and adjective agreement and vocabulary and important questions notes. Students have a vocab/note sheet and are instructed to at times write notes in their own notebook. Students complete a warm-up at the beginning of class daily and should use these resources to help them complete the warm-up questions and then warm-ups are given to students to keep and use for study. The second quiz, more important questions were added and students reviewed the verb gustar and the gustar pronouns. Students also reviewed the verb ir and talking about going places. The Test covered all the above and added more questions using the verb estar and talking about how you are. Also, students reviewed present tense regular verbs and stem-changing verbs (spelling is important!), also the structure used for answer what you are going to do was discussed as this is how students will talk about the future this year. Students should keep all papers and notes for the year in a folder for Spanish as there will be a cumulative final at the end of the semester. Other resources students have been given include a sheet with all the verbs that they learned last year and should know. Also a green tag board sheet that has all the verbs they will learn this year and space for some notes. Students have highlighted stem-changing present tense verbs on this sheet and reflexive verbs as well.

Unidad 1.1

Students have a goldenrod colored sheet for vocabulary and notes. Some vocab has been added during class that is common when talking about camping as this unit does. Students started working with this new vocabulary a week ago. Col 1 vocab will be covered on the quiz this Friday, Sept 29.

Last weeks quiz was preterite verbs – using the pink sheet – column 1 and all irregular yo form preterite from the pink sheet (-car, -gar, -zar). (34 flash cards were made to help with study.)

Lección Preliminar – The first Test was over review materials form second year. Students are given a vocab sheet and take notes and should keep all materials together to use to study. Students were also given a “pink sheet” with the most common verbs used in Spanish and this sheet is used for a quiz at least once a month. Students have reviewed present tense verb conjugations and stem-changing verbs. They also studied saber and conocer and verbs that are irregular in the yo form in the present tense. Ser and estar were reviewed as were reflexive verbs.  They have also reviewed the preterite tense and imperfect tense. Equal and unequl comparisons were worked with and practiced in class using current and previous vocabulary. The first quiz covered col. 1 on the vocab sheet. The second quiz covered present tense stem-changing verbs and irregular yo verbs from the pink sheet – there were 54 verbs and students needed to know the meaning and spelling of the verbs (flash cards were made to help study and prepare). Quiz 3 was 2nd column on the vocab sheet. The Test covered all of the above. Other resources students have been given include a sheet with all the verbs that they learned last year and in first year and should know.
