Notes for Express from Midwest Cup

Category Who Note
THE OTHER SIDE
Quick Fix Self & Randal Steady Rhythm from drum click and piano at beginning
General* Choir TONE- needs to be a full, rounded sound at ALL times
Quick Fix/Change Choir “But We Got Closer”- make a sudden FORTE moment

Quick Fix/Reminder Choreo For “ponies” move- BEND KNEES!
Quick Fix/Reminder Choir All Choir parts need to sing through the end of their phrases at the end of the opener (after the big “TONIGHT” moment)
Quick Fix/Change Emery & Randal Bigger crash cymbal at end of opener
LIVE LIKE A WARRIOR
CHANGE ALL Double band intro (1st half mezzo-forte, 2nd half fortissimo)- Ben is going to add some type of “move”- probably guys “launching” in 3 spots
Reminder Choir LOUD at beginning, suddenly soft at “Today you feel, as everyone hates”
General* Choir TONE- SING THROUGH ENDS OF PHRASES
Quick Fix/Change Band Up a little bit when choir is singing
CHANGE ALL 1st two choruses- CUT IN HALF IN LENGTH

Quick Fix Women Add space to tone at the end of “Live Like A Warrior”
DEMONS
Quick Fix Guys Button your jackets! Garrett! Kyler or Ethan?
Quick Fix Soloists Keep “classical” or “All-State” tone in solo- too much spreading of vowels (and intonation suffers as a result)
General* Choir Dynamic ups and dynamic downs!
General Choir Sing longer phrases
Quick Fix Andrew “Whoas”- Andrew drop down to melody
Quick Fix Guys Softer dynamic in bridge “they say it’s what you make…”
Quick Fix Women Longer phrases in bridge “your eyes they shine so bright”
Change ALL Ending of ballad
365 DAYS
Quick Fix/CHANGE ALL Double length of intro- Women physically MARCH the men off stage (guys have to be scared off stage instead of just… leaving)
Quick Fix/Reminder Sydne MOVE THEM HIPS, GURL! Add back in whatever vocal riff you had done on “I told you back in June, you knew damn WELL what I would do”
Quick Fix/Reminder Women/Sydne The word we should sing is “O-VA”… not “O-VERRRRR”
Work/Fix Women Clean and stylize choreography- especially dance break- think of your moves as HIP moves with arms an accent. Right now they look like arm-focused boy moves with little level changes
Quick Fix/Reminder Women CHEST VOICE after dance break
CHANGE ALL “Chord” moment on last- notes will change
CHANGE Ben “Pull” move after Melt
Quick Fix Women Final pose on beat 1 (AFTER “over now”)
DANCE WITH ME TONIGHT
Quick Fix Guys FACES in background during Braxton’s solo
Quick Fix/Reminder Guys Vocals- in 2-part split, basses need to be brighter, and tenors need to add more space
Quick Fix/Reminder Guys Reinforce the falsetto “oo’s”
Quick Fix/Reminder Braxton Keep the microphone close to your mouth when you’re singing! “EAT THE MIC!”
Quick Fix/Reminder Guys Choreo Don’t “Flick” hands & fix “slide” move (short arms, wide feet, unify body angle)
CHANGE Ben During Andrew’s backflip, all men turn bodies towards Andrew, clap (instead of choo-choo move), and lower selves physically
Fix/Reminder Choir Claps & Yeahs- Women add more space to tone- think operatic. Claps are still rushing. All need to think SLOWER.
Fix/Reminder Choreo Blocking/picture in collapse
CHANGE Guys Sing text on the last chorus- not “oo’s”
RIGHT NOW/CAN’T HOLD US
CHANGE Choreo When Standing on clicks… 1(2)3(4)5678- Girls now stand on 5 and guys stand on 7 (guys help girls stand by guiding them up with hand in the small of their back)
Quick Fix/Reminder Randal Slower tempo at beginning
Fix/Reminder Women Add space to tone and FINISH PHRASES – “Wherever you wanna go, whenever baby I’m yours”
General* Choir SPACE & TONE in singing
Reminder Women CRESCENDO on the “eh’s”
Quick Fix/Reminder Band Don’t speed up at dance break!
