Welcome to Reading Elements!

Reading Elements is a course in which instruction is provided in application of reading strategies and to build vocabulary in addition to building reading comprehension skills.  The course also assists students in preparing for the RGDE.

The Reading Elements course is offered both in middle and high school buildings.  The same instructional objectives apply to the Reading Elements course offered in middle schools and in High School Reading Elements.  The materials used at the middle and high school levels differ and are age appropriate for the students at each level.  The materials used in this course are at an instructional level of grades five to seven.

The course may be repeated for multiple semesters, as appropriate.  At middle and high school levels, the curriculum functions on a two-year cycle.

Students are placed in reading courses based on multiple criteria and assessments.  The building’s Reading Liaison determines placement of students who have entered seventh grade.  Placement of students entering high school from middle schools is recommended by the middle school Reading Liaisons.

*In all courses, students are assessed using materials at the instructional level for the courses.
