About Mrs. A

When people hear that I teach both art and computer science, many respond with a right brain vs. left brain sort of comment, as computer science and art have traditionally been in separate domains. But if you look at the computer as an art tool rather than just something to check your e-mail with, then you might just understand where my curriculum is based.

As a former graphic designer, I used the computer every day to create some amazing (and, I admit, sometimes not so amazing) pieces of work. And if you look at the world we live in, most of what we use every day has been touched at some point by an artist using a computer to design it – movies, magazines, video games, websites, all kinds of product packaging, etc. So, for me, it just comes natural to teach students about these two areas by combining them. Students at Calvert have both the traditional art room experience, but they also are learning coding, media arts and digital citizenship through a project based curriculum. My goal is that Calvert students are learning how to use both sides of their brains!
